Dr. David Cohen received his B.A. from Wesleyan University, and received his M.D. from Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons. He completed his medical internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan, and then completed his cardiology fellowship at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. He then spent a year in interventional cardiology training at Westchester Medical Center (New York Medical College). He went into practice in West Paterson, N.J. in 1986 as an interventional cardiologist. In 1997 he completed additional training in Peripheral Vascular Intervention at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, in Boston. After 20 years as an interventional cardiologist, Dr. Cohen established Circulatory Care of New Jersey and has stopped delivering cardiac care in order to permit a greater commitment to treatment of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and vein diseases.
In 2008, Dr. Cohen became one of the first physicians in the state of New Jersey to become Board Certified in Phlebology, which is the field of vein disease. Dr. Cohen is board certified by the American Board of Vascular Medicine, with certification in Endovascular Medicine. He is also board-certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, Nuclear Cardiology, and Interventional Cardiology. He is a Fellow in the American College of Cardiology, a Fellow in the Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions, Past-President New Jersey Society of Interventional Cardiology. He was the Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center ( Paterson, N.J.) for many years. He also works at Valley Hospital (Ridgewood, N.J.).
Dr. Cohen is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at New York University Medical Center in the Division of Cardiology.
Dr. Cohen has been a pioneer in the use of a wide variety of new catheter-based therapies for vascular diseases. He has gained substantial experience and national recognition by using these systems in highly innovative ways. He has participated in a research protocol in carotid stent implantation and has gained substantial expertise in this modality. He was a principal investigator in an international research study on the use of lasers for critical limb ischemia (LACI-2) trial. He has also participated in a variety of coronary
interventional
trials (GUARD, VESTA trials) investigating new devices. He is currently active in multi-center research studies in plaque analysis which will hopefully result in a better understanding of atherosclerosis and help to develop new drugs to combat atherosclerosis.
As public interest in this work has grown, Dr. Cohen has been the subject of a number of news stories on television and print over the last few years. Patients from around the country, and even from overseas, have travelled to receive care from Dr. Cohen. In order to further enhance his ability to deliver this care, Dr. Cohen has established Circulatory Care of New Jersey, a state of the art medical practice in Paramus, New Jersey
