Dr. David Cohen received his B.A. from Wesleyan University, and received his M.D. from Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons. He completed his medical internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan, and then completed his cardiology fellowship at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. He then spent a year in interventional cardiology training at Westchester Medical Center (New York Medical College). He went into practice in West Paterson, N.J. in 1986 as an interventional cardiologist. In 1997 he completed additional training in Peripheral Vascular Intervention at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, in Boston. After 20 years as an interventional cardiologist, Dr. Cohen established Circulatory Care of New Jersey in 2004, and has since stopped delivering cardiac care in order to permit a greater commitment to treatment of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and vein diseases.

In 2008, Dr. Cohen became one of the first physicians in the state of New Jersey to become Board Certified in Phlebology, which is the field of vein disease. Dr. Cohen is also board certified by the American Board of Vascular Medicine, with certification in Endovascular Medicine. He is also board-certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, Nuclear Cardiology, and Interventional Cardiology. He is a Fellow in the American College of Cardiology, a Fellow in the Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions, Past-President New Jersey Society of Interventional Cardiology. He was certified by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) as a Registered Physician for Vascular Interpretation (RPVI) in 2007 and as a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) in 2010. He was the Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and Director of Peripheral Vascular Intervention at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center ( Paterson, N.J.) for many years. He also is on staff at The Valley Hospital (Ridgewood, N.J.). His office based ultrasound imaging laboratory is certified by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL).

Dr. Cohen has been a pioneer in the use of a wide variety of new catheter-based therapies for vascular diseases. He has gained substantial experience and national recognition by using these systems in highly innovative ways. He has participated in a research protocol in carotid stent implantation and has gained substantial expertise in this modality. He was a principal investigator in a pivotal international research study on the use of lasers for critical limb ischemia (LACI-2) trial.

As public interest in this work has grown, Dr. Cohen has been the subject of a number of news stories on television and print over the last few years. Patients from around the country, and even from overseas, have travelled to receive care from Dr. Cohen, and physicians from around the nation have received training in arterial and venous therapy from Dr. Cohen. In order to further enhance his ability to deliver this care, Dr. Cohen has established Circulatory Care of New Jersey and the Center for Advanced Vein Therapy, a pioneering medical practice in Paramus, New Jersey.
